Dec. 20, 2010 -- The Environmental Working Group is reporting results from its newest study, which detects the toxic substance hexavalent chromium in 31 of 35 cities tested.

The highest levels were found in Norman, OK, Honolulu, HI, Riverside, CA, Madison, WI, and San Jose, CA.

The results come at a time when the U.S. EPA is considering whether to set a limit for hexavalent chromium in tap water. In 2008, the National Institutes of Health said the substance is a "probable carcinogen." It's been linked in animals to leukemia and other cancers as well as liver and kidney damage.
