CH2M HILL employees donate more than $92,000 to aid Water For People
DENVER, CO, July 24, 2007 -- By hosting everything from pancake breakfasts to bowling tournaments, CH2M HILL employees around the world have raised more than $92,000 in employee contributions to help Water For People, an international nonprofit that increases access to safe drinking water and improves sanitation and health in developing countries.
Together with cash and in-kind contributions, the company and its employees committed more than $125,000 to advance Water For People's work and support its 2007 fundraising campaign.
CH2M HILL has been a Water For People corporate partner since 1991. In 2003, CH2M HILL became the first company to introduce an online giving option to make it even easier for employees to donate. The company also provided the nonprofit with funding to help develop the software for online contributions.
"Workplace giving campaigns provide a very large base of support -- over a half-million dollars -- for Water For People in unrestricted funds," says Nancy Stewart, manager of corporate giving for Water For People. "The donations received are used whenever and wherever they're most needed. This allows us to provide communities that are ready and willing to begin their water and sanitation projects to do so immediately, rather than to wait for restricted funds to be allocated."
Nearly 80 CH2M HILL offices and project sites worldwide participated in the 2007 campaign. Top fundraising offices as determined by average donation per employee were Amman, Jordan; Parsippany, N.J.; Gainesville, Fla.; and Singapore. Four CH2M HILL employees serve on the Water For People board of directors, and several others serve on local committees.
"Water For People is overwhelmed by the generosity of CH2M HILL and its employees in supporting our mission to develop locally sustainable drinking water resources, sanitation facilities, and health and hygiene education programs in developing countries," says Deborah Brink, acting executive director of Water For People. "CH2M HILL's employee giving program demonstrates the commitment of its employees as active participants in solving the global water crisis and is just one aspect of the company's tremendous leadership in this area."
"The strong, firmwide support of Water For People aligns with our ongoing efforts to find sustainable clean water solutions and help improve the quality of life for people around the world," says Tom Searle, president of CH2M HILL's Water Business Group. "We applaud both the creativity of our employees in developing so many successful fundraising events and their deep personal commitment to the worthy cause of ensuring a world where all people have access to clean water and adequate sanitation services."
From water reclamation to desalination to more efficient water treatment, CH2M HILL's Water Business Group designs, builds, engineers and delivers water projects and water technologies that are cost-effective, innovative, and timely.
Through CH2M HILL OMI, the company provides a range of custom-tailored operations and maintenance solutions, including water and wastewater system optimization; consulting; and contract O&M of water, wastewater and other utilities -- all backed by a commitment to safety, quality, innovation and customer service.
