LONDON, ON, Canada, Oct. 12, 2004 -- Trojan Technologies Inc. was chosen to supply ultraviolet (UV) drinking water disinfection equipment for the community of Walkerton, Ontario.
"With the addition of UV disinfection technology, we can provide Walkerton residents with an increased level of confidence in the safety of their drinking water," said Mayor Charlie Bagnato. "We are pleased to be working with Trojan Technologies to provide a permanent disinfection solution and additional peace of mind for our community."
Walkerton selected Trojan's UV technology as a reliable, cost-effective solution to ensure the public safety of the town's drinking water. Two TrojanUVSwift municipal drinking water disinfection units will provide primary and permanent disinfection of the drinking water supply.
"We are pleased to have been chosen by Walkerton to provide advanced UV disinfection technology for treatment of their drinking water, said Marvin DeVries, president and CEO of Trojan Technologies. "Increasingly, communities are recognizing that a multi-barrier system is the best way to ensure safe drinking water, and that UV is an important component of such systems because of its reliability, proven effectiveness, and cost-efficiency."
The TrojanUVSwift system forms an integral part of the "multiple barrier" treatment strategy recommended in Part Two of the Walkerton Commission of Inquiry Report into the outbreak of E. coli 0157 in May, 2000. The report concluded that UV disinfection can provide a primary defense among the "combination of steps" required to achieve a healthy public water supply.
The equipment, is expected to be installed and operational by this winter. The two units will treat water at a rate of just over 7,100 cubic meters a day. Trojan, which sells UV technology around the world, has provided municipal drinking water treatment solutions to over 85 municipalities across Canada. Trojan has also been selected to provide systems for the largest UV installations in the United States (Seattle, Wash.) and Europe (Rotterdam, the Netherlands).
