Haestad Methods awards engineering scholarship
WATERBURY, CT, Feb. 25, 2004 -- Haestad Methods announced that Om Gharty Chhetri has been awarded an engineering scholarship sponsored by Haestad Methods. This program was established by Haestad Methods to provide financial support to full-time civil engineering students with an interest in hydraulic engineering.
Om Gharty Chhetri will use his Haestad Methods' scholarship to help with the expenses of his master's degree in civil engineering from Lamar University in Beaumont, TX. Chhetri received his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the Institute of Engineering in Lalitpur, Nepal in 2000 and is an active member of Chi Epsilon and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
Scholarship recipients are selected based on outstanding academic achievement and preparation of a high-quality research paper on water resources. Chhetri wrote his paper on the analysis of storm drainage design systems and the rational method, with a focus on inlets and conduits. He used Haestad Methods' StormCAD® stormwater modeling software for analysis of the results and compared them to other modeling software results.
"Haestad Methods' scholarship and academic programs exist to facilitate active involvement in the development of the engineering profession," said Dr. Thomas Walski, Vice President of Engineering for Haestad Methods. "Our free eTraining courses, technical book and library donations, and discounted pricing work together to build friendships that expand educational opportunities and make a positive impact on the civil engineering community as a whole."
Additional academic initiatives sponsored by the company include Haestad Methods' Educational Software Grant for qualified colleges, universities, and technical institutes; and UTalk™, the company's innovative online discussion group created specifically for university faculty, researchers, and students.
