The handbook has become increasingly important for engineers to look at the aspects of design for projects. Instead of relying on biased or inaccurate information from manufacturers, they are able to receive precise data from the book, Saubert said. "The handbook is a very good reference document that is a comprehensive resource for engineers that need a training solution," Saubert said.

The book also has been useful in the number of projects that currently are in progress around the country that have resulted from TEA 21 (Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century) and the Clean Water Act. Stormwater, drainage and other applications as well as federal programs benefit from the handbook.
