Bids sought for second phase of water main replacement project in Arizona

The City of Somerton, Arizona, is soliciting bids for the second phase of a project that will ultimately replace aging, undersized asbestos cement water mains with PVC pipe of various sizes.

Somerton, Ariz., April 2, 2002 -- The City of Somerton, Arizona, is soliciting bids for the second phase of a project that will ultimately replace aging, undersized asbestos cement water mains with PVC pipe of various sizes.

The invitation for bids followed the General Procurement Notice for the project, which was published in the Arizona Business Gazette on January 31, 2002 and the NADBank News on February 1, 2002.

The City of Somerton, Arizona, intends to use part of the proceeds from a grant from the North American Development Bank (NADB), through its EPA Border Environment Infrastructure Fund (BEIF), towards the cost of the project. Bidding will be conducted in accordance with the NADB Procurement Policies and Procedures and will be open to firms of any country.

Sealed bids for the construction of a Water Main Replacement Project (Phase II) will be received by the City of Somerton at the Office of the City Manager, 110 N. State Ave., Somerton, Arizona 85350, until 11:00 A.M. (Arizona Time), on May 15, 2002, at which time they will be publicly opened and read aloud.

The project involves the replacement of 25,800 linear feet (LF) of old undersized asbestos cement water distribution mains with new mains which include 1,200 LF of 10-inch PVC pipe, 7,000 LF of 8-inch PVC pipe, 17,500 LF of 6-inch PVC pipe, 100 LF of 4-inch PVC pipe, and associated valves and fittings.

Copies of the contract documents may be obtained at the office of Nicklaus Engineering, Inc., located at 1851 W. 24th Street, Yuma, AZ 85364 upon a deposit payment of $50.00 for each set. Any bidder or non-bidder, upon returning the contract documents promptly and in good condition, will be refunded the deposit.

All bids must be accompanied by a bid security in the amount of at least five percent (5%) of the bidder's total amount.
