DENVER, CO, Feb. 16, 2011 -- CH2M HILL (www.ch2mhill.com), a global full-service consulting, design, construction, and operations firm, is pleased to announce that the firm has been awarded the Region of Peel, Ontario's $8 million contract for consulting services for detailed design for the southern section of the Hanlan Feedermain. Upon successful completion of the detailed design, and provided satisfactory performance and approval of budget, CH2M HILL will receive subsequent award of the contract administration and inspection component of the assignment.
The need to construct the various water and transmission mains was identified as part of the Region of Peel 2007 Water and Wastewater Master Plan update. The new Hanlan Feedermain will provide additional water to the City of Mississauga to allow for development intensification, as well as water supply for planned development in the northern Peel system and York Region. It will also provide redundancy to the Peel system, allowing the existing feedermain to be temporarily shut off for inspection and repair. The new 2400mm (95 inch) diameter Hanlan Feedermain will extend approximately 14 kilometers north from the Lakeview Water Treatment Plant to the Hanlan Reservoir and Pumping Station.
To meet tight schedule requirements, the Region decided to split the project into two components -- north and south -- where vendors could not be awarded both jobs. The proposal was competitively bid and CH2M HILL Canada Limited was recommended for award of the south section, and MMM Group Limited was recommended for award of the north section contract.
The Region of Peel's Regional Council Report indicated that, "The CH2M HILL Canada Limited proposal received the highest overall score when staff assessed the combination of technical proficiency and price. The consultant has demonstrated a thorough understand of the project and has extensive experience with Regional infrastructure and design. Staff concluded that the CH2M HILL Canada Limited proposal provides the best overall value to the Region."
