CHERRY HILL, NJ, June 24, 2008 -- New Jersey American Water has announced a series of water main replacement and installation projects in the city of Linwood to improve service reliability and increase water flows for firefighting. The combined cost of the company's capital improvements is approximately $800,000 and will be completed in conjunction with the New Jersey Department of Transportation's (NJDOT) plans to repave U.S. Route 9.
"The region's water infrastructure is critical and this capital investment will help ensure long-term water service reliability and adequate fire protection for our more than 2,800 customers in the city of Linwood," said John Bigelow, president of New Jersey American Water. "By working with Linwood's leaders and NJDOT, we'll be able to complete these significant infrastructure improvements in a timely, efficient manner."
During the summer months, contractor crews working with New Jersey American Water will continue to replace, install and connect more than 12,000 feet of pipeline in three phases. These phases include:
• Installations and connections already in progress at U.S. Route 9 where the road intersects at various streets including Jefferson Avenue, Joseph Avenue, Frances Avenue and Monroe Avenue, as well as pipeline replacements on Marvin Avenue.
• Replacing water mains on Maple Avenue, Jefferson Avenue, Oakgrove Avenue and Edgewood Avenue, as well as installing pipelines at various intersections along Wabash Avenue (in the vicinity of the Linwood recreation fields).
• Installations and connections in the Wabash Avenue area between Woodstock Drive and Belhaven Avenue as well as Schoolhouse Drive and Grant Avenue.
Contractor crews working with New Jersey American Water are scheduled to work weekdays from 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. and the project is expected to be completed in August, weather permitting.
