VALLEY FORGE, PA, Oct. 22, 2007 -- Hackensack, New Jersey-based nationwide contractor J. Fletcher Creamer & Son Inc., is using CertainTeed® Yelomine™ PVC pipe to provide temporary water main service during a current water main rehabilitation project in Upper Darby Township, Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia.
J. Fletcher Creamer & Son Inc. was hired by Aqua Pennsylvania, a subsidiary of Aqua America Inc., one of the largest publicly traded water and wastewater utility holdings in the nation, to clean and apply a cement mortar lining to corroded cast iron water main pipes throughout Pennsylvania. For the Upper Darby and Springfield Township project, which began in March, the contractor is using 30,000 feet each of 2-inch and 4-inch Yelomine pipe to set up a temporary water main, while the company's crew rehabs the existing 30,000-foot of 6-inch and 8-inch diameter cast iron water main. A temporary bypass system ensures that Aqua Pennsylvania customers have no interruption of service during the rehabilitation process. The job is expected to complete in November.
To set up a bypass system, work crews install the Yelomine PVC pipe above ground. Once the system has been tested and confirmed safe for use, the existing underground water mains are shut down. Yelomine pipe takes little effort to connect and disconnect and is lightweight, making it easy to maneuver. These are the main reasons J. Fletcher Creamer & Son Inc., has used Yelomine PVC pipe to build bypass water systems for the past 20 years.
"The Yelomine pipe suits our needs," says Scott Donadio, Project Manager for J. Fletcher Creamer & Son Inc. "The pipe is durable, lightweight and easy to work with. We have no trouble moving it from place to place. We have rehabilitated over 1,250 miles of pipeline across the United States and most projects involve the use of Yelomine PVC."
Yelomine pipe is made from a unique, modified PVC formulation with increased sunlight- and impact- resistance, making it perfect for use in aboveground applications where conventional white pipe may not have the required long-term performance. Its spline-lock joining system reliably holds the pipe together when pressurized. Besides water and sewer bypass lines, Yelomine is also ideal for a variety of other critical applications, including mining, irrigation and trenchless construction projects. The product has many qualities that appeal to contractors, but its high impact strength, leak resistance and quick assembly really stand out, says Steve Gross, Marketing Director for CertainTeed's Pipe Group.
"For more than 30 years, Yelomine has been making a name for itself with its groundbreaking restrained joint PVC pipe system and strong performance," he says. Yelomine is a very versatile product and we're happy to see its success in the projects of J. Fletcher Creamer & Son."
