Michigan construction worker killed during water main repairs, break

The 33-year old construction worker died after a water cap blew, knocking him into water.

BURTON, MI, NOV 22, 2017 -- A construction worker with Ric-Man Construction Company is dead after police say he fell into a pit filled with rushing water while working on Tuesday morning.

An NBC News affiliate reports the worker using a backhoe when a water cap blew and knocked him into a hole. The hole was filling with water in what police are calling a water main break. Three water mains intersect in the same point where the accident occurred.

The man was under water for 20 minutes before he was rescued.

The 33-year-old construction worker's name has not yet been released, but his family has been notified.
