Hopatcong receives $1M for lead service line replacements
Hopatcong Borough, New Jersey, has received $1 million in federal funding for the initial phase of lead service line replacements along multiple roadways, according to an announcement from U.S. Rep. Tom Kean Jr.
The project aims to modernize the borough’s water infrastructure and reduce the risk of lead contamination in drinking water by replacing lead service lines. The announcement did not specify the number of service lines to be replaced or a construction timeline.
Hopatcong Mayor Marie Galate said the funding will support the borough’s ongoing lead service line replacement work and help protect public health.
The funding was secured through the federal Community Project Funding process. Kean’s office said he has secured more than $14.5 million for water infrastructure projects across New Jersey’s Seventh Congressional District. All 15 projects he secured through the fiscal year 2026 Community Project Funding process have been enacted into law, according to the announcement.
Lead service lines can release lead into drinking water, posing health risks, particularly for children. Replacing these lines is a key infrastructure priority for water systems working to reduce lead exposure.
