The City of Aurora's water recycling plant expansion has reached the 75 percent completion milestone. The $10 million project is on schedule and under budget and will be capable of producing 5 million gallons of water per day to irrigate 600 acres at parks, golf courses and greenbelts throughout the city. Substantial completion of the plant is expected by February 2001, with recycled water available for the 2001 irrigation season.
Aurora is considered to be one of the water recycling leaders in Colorado.
"We are very pleased with the project. The City and Arber Associates have truly been partners throughout the project, and a general spirit of cooperation exists between the contractor and engineer to resolve complex construction issues. There have been surprising few change orders for a project of this magnitude," said Kevin Wegener, Manager of Wastewater Operations for the city.
Richard P. Arber Associates, a professional consulting engineering firm, performed the design of the plant and is providing engineering services during the construction. The project is being constructed by Weaver General Construction, which has placed over 7,000 cubic yards of concrete at the site.
Treatment equipment, including an ultraviolet disinfection system and continuous backwash filters, is currently being installed.
