DENVER, June 1, 2005 -- Hall of Fame football player and coach Mike Ditka will speak to hundreds of water industry professionals during the Water Industry Lunch on June 14, Noon - 2:00 p.m., at the American Water Works Association's Annual Conference and Exposition (ACE05) in San Francisco's Moscone Center.

ACE05 is the longest-running gathering of water professionals in the world. This year's conference, June 12-16 in San Francisco, is expected to draw more than 12,000 people from throughout the global water community. Ditka, who coached the Chicago Bears to six NFC Central titles and a Super Bowl win in 1986, will speak during the annual Water Industry Lunch about getting to the top by surpassing your own personal challenges. Tickets are still available.

Ditka was awarded Coach of the Year honors in 1985 and 1988. He is only one of two men to ever win the Super Bowl as a player, assistant coach, and head coach and is only one of four head coaches to have recorded over 100 coaching victories in only 10 seasons.

Ditka began his NFL career in 1961 with the Bears, earning the title of NFL Rookie of the Year. During his playing career, he played pro football for the Bears, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Dallas Cowboys where he earned a Super Bowl VI victory over the Miami Dolphins. Ditka was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1988. He retired from playing in 1973 and was hired by Cowboys' head coach Tom Landry as an offensive assistant and special teams coach. This led to six division titles, three NFL Championships, and the NFL crown following the 1977 campaign.

The World's Water Event, ACE05 is expected to draw more than 12,000 water professionals and 500 exhibitors. It will feature a professional program with more than 100 sessions and 17 in-depth Sunday Workshops - the largest professional program of any industry conference. Topics covered will include infrastructure management, security, emerging issues, water conservation and water resources, and legislative and regulatory issues.

Established in 1881 and based in Denver, Colo., AWWA (www.awwa.org) is the oldest and largest nonprofit scientific and educational organization dedicated to safe water in North America. With over 57,000 members worldwide, its 4,700 utility members serve 80% of America's population. For more on the San Francisco conference, see: www.awwa.org/ace2005.
