A new grease trap monitor protects infrastructure

Regulators are imposing tighter controls on the operation and maintenance of restaurant and commercial grease traps and septic tanks to protect the environment and prevent infrastructure failures.

SANDWICH, Mass., April 23, 2002 -- Regulators worldwide are imposing tighter controls on the operation and maintenance of restaurant and commercial grease traps and septic tanks in an effort to protect the environment and prevent costly infrastructure failures.

GreaseWatch(tm), the first automatic, ultrasonic tank monitoring system, now allows owners and managers to easily see what is going on in their grease traps, potentially minimizing unnecessary pumping and costly system backup.

With the push of a button on the control unit inside a place of business, the proprietor can find out how close the tank is to its next pumping before problems occur. Required maintenance can be performed and documented on a regular schedule or as needed in times of heavier use.

Manufactured by Worldstone, Inc. of Sandwich, Mass., the ultrasonic monitoring system is favored by inspectors because it documents regulatory compliance with automated record keeping stored internally for up to 20 years. This documentation insures maintenance is performed and spares businesses possible penalties including business closure for exceeding grease or sludge limits in the tank as prescribed by city, county or state regulation.

GreaseWatch uses microprocessor-based, ultrasonic technology and includes an ultrasonic transducer unit mounted on a pipe, suspended in the tank near the outlet. Easily installed by a service provider, the unobtrusive control unit mounts on a wall in the place of business and is wired to the transducer unit, using a safe, low voltage, wall mount power supply. The recorded data is fed back digitally to the control unit. Desired solids and liquids levels, and tank temperature can be preprogrammed and an alarm will sound if levels in the tank reach the danger point. Data can be stored, viewed or printed at any time, providing an historical record of changes in the tank.

Worldstone, Inc. founded in 1995, is the creator of ultrasonic technology for septic tank and grease trap monitoring. The company's GreaseWatch and SepticWatch(tm) monitoring systems are currently being installed in businesses and residential applications worldwide. Recent commercial monitoring system installations include restaurants, highway rest areas, prisons, military bases, and hospitals.
