KANSAS CITY, Mo., May 21, 2002 -- Black & Veatch Corp. recently announced the appointment of Dan McCarthy as President of the company's Water Americas Division. McCarthy will replace Jim Patton, who is retiring in August.
McCarthy has been with the company since 1976. His most recent position has been Senior Vice President and Midwest Region Manager for Americas Division. McCarthy has been a member of the Water Americas Division's Leadership Team, serving on their risk management committee, operational status review team and strategic planning team.
McCarthy's primary areas of responsibility have been in water supply, treatment and distribution projects, taking those projects from planning through design and construction. He has successfully managed both traditional and design-build forms of project delivery.
During his career with Black & Veatch, McCarthy has progressed from design engineer and project manager to executive positions within the Water Sector. McCarthy received his B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1975 from Iowa State University and his M.S. in Civil Engineering in 1982 from the University of Kansas.
"As the new President of Water Americas Division, Dan's experience and leadership will guide the division to new growth and success in water markets throughout the United States and the Americas," said Len C. Rodman, Chairman, President and CEO of Black & Veatch.
"Our markets in the Water Sector are expanding steadily due to the continuing need for regulatory compliance, aging infrastructure and population growth. The company's experience and success managing complex projects, cutting edge technology and creating value for our clients positions us to continue growing our Water Sector business."
The Water Americas Division has regional offices in 26 of the 30 fastest growing cities in the United States. The division is top ranked in the industry by Engineering News Record for its services in water and wastewater engineering and construction. Patton has served in various leadership roles since joining Black & Veatch in 1964.
Prior to his assignment as President of Water Americas Division, he was head of the company's global Infrastructure Business from 1988 through 2000. Under his direction, Black & Veatch expanded its share of the world's water and wastewater markets through the acquisition of three international companies.
He is credited with expanding the company's EPC services in water markets. Patton also serves on the company's Board of Directors, from which he will retire following the August Board meeting. The Board is currently conducting a search for a new outside Director to replace Patton's position after he leaves in August.
"We honor Jim's desire to retire as much as we respect the wonderful contributions he has made to the well being of the company during his 38-year career," said Rodman. "Jim's retirement will allow him to spend more time with his family and increase the time he devotes to community service. We are happy for Jim that he has the opportunity to explore new paths, pursue his passions and continue finding meaning and authenticity in his life journey."
