SOMERTON, Ariz., Feb. 2, 2002 -- The City of Somerton, Ariz., is planning to replace several of its older water mains.
Part of the costs will be covered by the North American Development Bank (NADB), through its EPA-funded Border Environmental Infrastructure Fund (BEIF).
Somerton is located in the southwest part of the state in Yuma County, about 10 miles south of Yuma. The city operates the water and sewer facilities for its 7,266 residents.
The project is the second phase of an effort to replace the older water mains in the central core of the community and was certified by the Border Environment Cooperation Commission (BECC) on September 14, 2000. Design and agency review are complete. The total estimated cost of the Project is approximately $2.2 million.
The project sponsor, City of Somerton, Arizona, has requested BEIF funds from the NADB, as well as a loan/grant from the USDA Rural Development Agency, to be used during this phase of the project.
