LOS ANGELES, OCTOBER 26, 2016 -- Officials in Los Angeles have asked the state of California for help amid a drought that continues to plague the state.
Curbed LA reports that a letter sent last week to the California Water Resources Control Board and Department of Water Resources by LA Mayor Eric Garcetti and City Controller Ron Galperin asked the state to lift a $15 million limit on grants for water recycling projects.
The letter argued that more money will be needed to fund necessary infrastructure improvements, including large-scale projects, like the $435 million purification facility being planned at a water reclamation plant in Van Nuys.
Additionally, the letter stated the city is seeking to reduce water use by 25 percent by 2035, while getting at least half of its supply locally in the same year; requiring a substantial increase in state funding.
