HOCKINSON, Wash., Nov 13, 2000 (The Columbian)—The sewer is the next stop for Hockinson's new high school project, and that's actually a good thing.
A sewer connection has been the big obstacle in Hockinson's bid to build its first high school, which is planned for a site just outside the authorized boundary for sewer service. The Clark County Planning Commission recently recommended adjustment of the county code that would extend sewer service to the school site.
The planning commission will take another look at the issue Thursday. If the planning commission favors amending the county code, it will forward a recommendation to the county commissioners. The commissioners will make the final call Dec. 5.
John Davis, Hockinson superintendent, said he is confident the district will get final approval for the sewer line that will allow construction of the high school to proceed on schedule.
"They are recognizing that schools don't create growth; schools are a reaction to growth," Davis said.
