Aug. 1, 2003 -- The water utility in Matamoros , Tamaulipas, Junta de Agua y Drenaje de Matamoros (JAD), has requested US$33 million grant from the North American Development Bank (NADB), through its EPA-funded Border Environmental Infrastructure Fund (BEIF), as well as a US$10 million loan.
These funds will be used to finance the following works which form part of the first phase of necessary improvements to the city's water and wastewater
infrastructure:
* Construction of raw water storage pond
* Construction of two elevated storage tanks
* Rehabilitation and expansion of Water Treatment Plant No. 2 and the backwash recovery works
* Rehabilitation of the pump station in Water Treatment Plant No. 2
* Installation of approximately 12 km. of water distribution lines
* Purchase and installation of micrometers
* Installation of approximately 50 km. of wastewater lines.
* Rehabilitation and construction of 17 pump stations with a combined capacity of 12,300 lps
* Construction of a new wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 400 lps
JAD will carry out international competitive bidding processes consistent with NADB Procurement Policies and Procedures for the construction of these works. Participation in these bidding processes will be open to firms from any country. Construction of these works is scheduled to begin during the second quarter of 2003.
