EXTON, Pa., June 24, 2003 -- Bentley Systems, Inc. announced that the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration's innovative water and wastewater infrastructure AEC/geospatial system was awarded the Geospatial/Government Success Award. Presented annually at the Bentley International User Conference, Success Awards recognize the most innovative and technologically advanced AEC projects in the world.

Using Bentley's geospatial products, ISKI Genel Mudurlugu (ISKI) developed a complete infrastructure information system that handles AEC/geospatial information for the design and management of its entire water and wastewater infrastructure. With this innovation in place, ISKI and other city agencies now have a powerful decision support system that raises their level of service, improves their resource planning, and lowers their infrastructure lifecycle costs.

"ISKI personnel are not losing time searching for the information they need from another agency; they already have all the details on the intranet and it's simple for them to print or plot just what they need on site," Dursun Ali Codur, General Manager of ISKI, said. "Compared to the way we formerly worked, infrastructure breakdowns are more easily repaired - ISKI personnel get the right location and material information using intranet technology. Changes to the infrastructure are more easily updated using Bentley redlining solutions."

ISKI developed its infrastructure information system on the basis of Bentley's geospatial products. MicroStation GeoGraphics®, Bentley® Water™, and Bentley® WasteWater™ are being used to produce both spatial and attribute operational data layers. ISKI is using MicroStation® Descartes™ to process raster data and manage raster datasets and Bentley® Publisher™ to share data over the intranet and Internet.

The information managed includes all of Istanbul's maps: 7,000 photogrammetric maps, 500 orthophoto maps, satellite images, city plans, cadastral maps, master plans. The water and sewage network itself is about 21,500 km in length and serves the 12 million residents of Istanbul.

ISKI has thoroughly documented its system in a book (including a compact disc) in both Turkish and English. Some of the benefits of the system enumerated in the book are increased efficiency and productivity; reduced spending and increased revenue; better decision-support resources; better resource management; increased accuracy of maps and attribute data; and a consistent database for all participating municipal agencies.
