City of Ojinaga plans water and wastewater system improvements

The City of Ojinaga, Chihuahua has requested assistance from the North American Development Bank's (NADB) to finance part of the costs associated with the Improvements to the Wastewater Collection and Treatment Systems and Construction of a Wastewater Treatment Plant Project.

April 1, 2003 -- The City of Ojinaga, Chihuahua has requested assistance from the North American Development Bank's (NADB) through its Border Environment Infrastructure Fund (BEIF), which is funded by contributions from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), to finance part of the costs associated with the Improvements to the Wastewater Collection and Treatment Systems and Construction of a Wastewater Treatment Plant Project, certified by the Border Environment Cooperation Commission on September 25, 2002.

The project includes the replacement of collectors, expansions and construction of wastewater collection system, replacement of sewage lines, substitution of system's outfall, replacement of manholes, and construction of a new wastewater treatment plant. The total estimated cost of the project is approximately US$5 million.

The City of Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico, the municipal seat, is located on the U.S.-Mexico border directly across from the city of Presido, Texas. It is 231 km (144 miles) northeast of the city of Chihuahua, the state capital.

Procurement for works financed with NADB funds is open to firms from the any country. The Municipal Water Utility of Ojinaga, Chihuahua (JAMS) will carry out competitive bidding consistent with NADB Procurement Policies available at (www.nadb.org). Construction of these works is scheduled to begin in the 2nd quarter of 2003.
