Five-year India infrastructure project awarded to Binnie Black & Veatch
March 21, 2001—A $250 million program to improve living conditions for a million people on the southwestern coast of India is being supported by Binnie Black & Veatch, which recently was awarded a five year contract to provide project management services to Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation Ltd.
Funded by the Asian Development Bank and the state of Karnataka, the project's focus is to improve water supply and sanitation, solid waste and wastewater management, urban streets and traffic management, slums, environmental planning, and other civic services in this agricultural and industrial area of India along the coast of Karnataka state. Training of local personnel to implement, manage, and operate these improvements is part of the work.
The program's objectives are to support investments in urban infrastructure and services needed to meet basic human needs and sustain social and economic development.
