WOODBRIDGE, VA, June 17, 2011 -- Balfour Beatty Infrastructure has acquired water and wastewater infrastructure contractor Fru-Con from Germany-based Bilfinger-Berger.
Fru-Con, with operations based in Woodbridge, VA, will retain its name and operate as a region of Balfour Beatty Infrastructure. The approximately 150 regional employees will be led by Michael R. Fischer, vice president of Fru-Con.
"The water and wastewater infrastructure market has been very successful for Balfour Beatty Infrastructure," said Ray Bond, president and CEO of Balfour Beatty Infrastructure. "With Fru-Con added to our portfolio we now combine the expertise of a water and wastewater specialist with those of a local civil contractor. We plan to draw on this combined skill set to grow further into the mid-Atlantic and California markets, as well as other regions including the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida, and Texas, in order to service their growing infrastructure needs."
Fru-Con was founded in 1872 and has annual revenues of approximately $80 million. The company constructs water and wastewater treatment plants and currently has major projects underway throughout the Maryland and Virginia area. The company recently completed a $136 million Water Pollution Control Plant Upgrade and Expansion Project for Arlington County, VA.
