DENVER, CO, and EDMONTON, AB, Canada, June 12, 2008 -- CH2M HILL has signed two separate contracts with Fort Hills Energy L.P. in a joint venture with Lockerbie & Hole Construction Management Inc. to provide engineering, procurement and construction services for the Infrastructure Utilities Work for the Fort Hills Oil Sands Project. CH2M HILL will serve as the managing partner of the $500 million joint venture contracts.
In making the announcement, CH2M HILL's Industrial Systems President Steve Gelman stated, "We are pleased to be selected by Fort Hills Energy L.P. for work on the Fort Hills Oil Sands Project. Our strength to deliver their projects is based on 30 years of executing projects in Alberta, including other projects for Petro-Canada and global industrial EPC projects."
The contracts allow for continuation of front-end engineering design, early site work on the Fort Hills Mine site and the start of detail design activities.
Petro-Canada Oil Sands Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Petro-Canada, is the contract operator of the proposed Fort Hills Oil Sands Project which is owned by FHELP. Petro-Canada, UTS Energy Corporation and Teck Cominco are the limited partners of FHELP. The Project includes the Fort Hills Mine located 90 km north of Fort McMurray, Alberta, and the Upgrader site located approximately 45 km northeast of Edmonton, Alberta. The Project remains subject to regulatory approvals and project sanction by the partners.
