NEW YORK, NY, June 16, 2008 -- Jennifer K. Marcy, CFM, an environmental scientist with floodplain hazard management for PBS&J was the recent recipient of the Association of State Floodplain Manager's (ASFPM) John Ivey Award for Superior Efforts in Certification. The award was established by the ASFPM board of Directors in 2001 to recognize exceptional efforts to promote the professional certification of floodplain managers.

Marcy was the principal author and instructor for the CFM examination preparatory course that is offered at ASFPM conferences. Through her efforts, the course is being adapted to an exam preparation workshop that will be offered nationwide. Marcy and PBS&J were instrumental in certifying over 100 floodplain managers from among PBS&J's personnel -- more than any other consulting firm in the nation.

The ASFPM, an organization of professionals involved in floodplain management, flood hazard mitigation, the National Flood Insurance Program, and flood preparedness, warning and recovery, has become a respected voice in floodplain management practice and policy in the United States because it represents the flood hazard specialists of local, state and federal government, the research community, the insurance industry, and the fields of engineering, hydrologic forecasting, emergency response, water resources, and others.

In addition to her involvement with the ASFPM training program for certifying floodplain managers, Marcy has over seven years of experience in the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA's) National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) including work on many training, outreach, and research projects. Marcy earned a BS in natural resources from Cornell University.

PBS&J is an employee-owned firm that provides infrastructure planning, engineering, construction management, architecture and program management services to public and private clients.
