HOUSTON, TX, Oct. 15, 2008 -- BirdNest, a company that develops information systems for the water/wastewater industry, has created a tool called Automated Exception Reporting (AER) making it much easier to comply with regulations each month as water is treated and supplied to the public. AER was initially developed for one of BirdNest's clients, SouthWest Water Company (SWWC). SWWC is a public company that provides water, wastewater and public works services to over 2 million Americans in 10 states. Service companies of all sizes are facing tough challenges from this country's rapidly aging infrastructure, along with increasing development and urban population growth.

BirdNest's new system provides a running 24 x 7 real-time view of all the data that has not yet been submitted by field operators. Gaps in the data result in lost time and money at the end of each month since all facilities must submit accurate and complete monthly reports to comply with regulations.
In a short window of time at the end of each month, large amounts of data from daily operations are organized and compiled. Unplanned absences, missed substitution of personnel, accidents, etc., cause gaps in the data ("exceptions"). Many are not discovered and dealt with at the time they occur. BirdNest's AER system prevents common bottlenecks, and avoids backups, delays and unproductive expenditures of time and effort.
BirdNest's AER system is much more efficient than backtracking at the end of the month to find out where the gaps are, contacting the field operators involved, collecting and compiling the missing data and backfilling into the reporting system.
