WILMINGTON, DE, Sept. 13, 2006 -- DuPont Chemical Solutions Enterprise announced today that ChemPoint will become a national distributor for one of its major cleaning and descaling products, Glycolic Acid 70% Technical Grade. Glycolic Acid (also known as hydroxyacetic acid) Technical Grade is an effective cleaning and descaling agent used in household and industrial cleaning solutions and surface preparation for painting and plating. Glycolic Acid is part of a growing product selection available through ChemPoint, which also distributes Tyzor® Titanates and DryFilms Dispersions.
DuPont's Clean and Disinfect Team selected ChemPoint for distribution privileges in the United States because of their track record for achieving targeted growth and for their outstanding reputation in the chemical solutions industry. The deal was effective Sept. 1.

The chief application of Glycolic Acid in household, institutional, and industrial products is to clean and descale; Glycolic Acid 70% Technical Grade is primarily used in the removal of calcium, lime, and other hard water scales. Compared to other acids used in similar applications, Glycolic Acid features additional advantages such as ease of formulation, biodegradability, and low toxicity (providing for relatively safe use and handling). Glycolic Acid has a unique effect with respect to scale removal, because it readily attacks both carbonate and silicate scales, whereas many other products are better on one or the other. Glycolic Acid has also been successfully used in formulations for pre-paint treatments on automobiles and other metal surfaces, in the electronics industry for surface pretreatment cleaning, for concrete removal from construction equipment and hand tools, for industrial water system treatments, and for a number of other applications.
