New Hanson plant helps meet infrastructure needs in Ariz. markets
• El Mirage Pipe & Precast facility to support local commercial construction
DALLAS, TX, Oct. 1, 2007 -- Responding to the growing water control infrastructure needs of rapidly expanding Arizona markets, Hanson Pipe & Precast's new El Mirage, Ariz., facility will produce concrete pipe products for use in stormwater drainage systems, sewers and transportation to water treatment facilities. The new facility, currently in testing phases, will be fully operational this October. A grand opening event Oct. 3 will celebrate the completion of Hanson's newest state-of-the-art concrete pipe manufacturing facility. The celebration will also include the presentation of a donation benefiting the Phoenix Children's Hospital through the Children's Miracle Network.
The new 110,000-square-foot facility, the first of its kind in the Western U.S., located at 12600 West Northern Avenue in El Mirage, is managed by Chris Ortiz and employs approximately 35 people. With the new technology of automated systems for pipe production, curing and testing, Hanson can produce, on average, 600 tons of product per day, which represents a significant increase in production capacity for the company. Pipe is produced on the three-station rotary turntable Hawkeye PipePro XT Machine, which includes modules for creating varying diameters of pipe at the same time.
"Hanson has been part of the Arizona building community for more than 40 years," said Richard Manning, president and chief executive officer of Hanson Building Products North America. "With Arizona's quick growth of new communities and businesses, Hanson is growing to support those needs."
Many parts of Arizona are experiencing growing infrastructure needs due to a surge in new residential, commercial and industrial construction. In fact, the Phoenix Metro area, Flagstaff and Yuma were recently voted by Expansion Management as three of the 50 top cities in the United States for business expansion. Hanson's products were recently used for stormwater drainage systems in Cheatham Farms, a housing development in the Southwest Valley, and for roadway improvement projects such as the expansion of the Santan Freeway.
"This new facility will allow us to offer a range of products to our customers all under one roof," said Sue Tanenbaum, Hanson's Western region president. "Hanson is proud to serve this community and produce products that sustain Arizona's growing infrastructure."
El Mirage is part of Hanson's Western region based in Portland, Ore. The region services Arizona, California, Oregon, Utah and Washington out of 12 facilities that produce several products, including those used for community and roadway development such as reinforced concrete pipe, drainage structures, bridge systems and precast vaults.
Hanson Pipe & Precast is a manufacturer of concrete pipe; precast concrete products including manholes, drainage structures, box culverts, bridge components, retaining walls and concrete block; and steel and concrete pressure pipe.
Phoenix Children's Hospital is Arizona's leader in pediatric care and is one of the 10 largest free-standing children's hospitals in the nation.
