Calif. DWR sets Prop. 13 funding awards meeting; unveils new Prop. 50 water efficiency RFP package
SACRAMENTO, CA, Oct. 1, 2004 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Department of Water Resources (DWR) has scheduled an Oct. 14 meeting to announce funding awards under the Infrastructure Rehabilitation Program, authorized by Chapter 8 of the Safe Drinking Water, Clean Water, Watershed Protection and Flood Protection Act (Proposition 13).
When California voters approved Prop. 13 in March 2000, about $60 million were authorized for the grant program. The program targets the state's economically disadvantaged communities for funding to replace aging and leaky water delivery systems, including pipelines, tanks, pump stations, valves, and flow meters.
Prior to applications being submitted, DWR conducted public workshops for eligible applicants statewide to explain the program, how to apply, and how DWR planned to evaluate the applications.
Of the 22 proposals received for this final round, nine asked for feasibility study grants, and 13 were for construction grants. Requests totaled about $42 million. Fifteen of the proposals are to be awarded grants, totaling about $22.8 million, which obligates all the remaining funds in the program.
The Oct. 14 public meeting will be from 9 a.m. to noon in the Bonderson Building Auditorium, 901 P Street, Sacramento. For more information, contact Linda Buchanan at (916) 651-9645 or [email protected].
A listing of the Infrastructure Rehabilitation projects and studies evaluated in this funding cycle is available at DWR's Division of Planning and Local Assistance Web site at: www.grantsloans.water.ca.gov.
In other news, DWR released its draft version of the Proposition 50 Water Use Efficiency Modified Proposal Solicitation Package (PSP) for public comment. The modifications to the 2004 Prop. 50 proposal packages were prompted by comments and concerns from agricultural, urban, and environmental stakeholders after the PSP was distributed in August.
The draft version of the Modified PSP is now posted on the DWR web site for public comment until Oct. 29 (www.owue.water.ca.gov/finance/index.cfm
PSP and public comments will be discussed with the CALFED Bay-Delta Authority (CBDA) on Oct. 13- 14. DWR plans to release the Final PSP in its revised form by early November. PSP workshops will be held in Southern California, the San Joaquin Valley, and Northern California in December. This is a modified PSP for public comment. Do not submit proposals at this time.
