CDM chosen for water, wastewater improvements in Montenegro
BUDVA, Montenegro, Oct. 19, 2004 -- CDM has been selected by the U.S. Agency for
International Development (USAID) to provide water and wastewater system improvements in Budva, Kotor, and Cetinje, Montenegro. Under the $8 million design-build contract, CDM will design and construct a variety of improvements, such as providing additional water storage, repairing transmission lines, and upgrading pump stations.
The fast-track program will enhance water supply in all three cities and prevent wastewater overflows to the bathing beaches in Budva and to sensitive coastal and historically significant areas in Kotor--a United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Site marked by 1,000-year-old architecture--in time for the 2005 tourist season. Cetinje, which rests slightly inland, is a former capital of Montenegro and home to numerous historic landmarks and tourist attractions, including the National Museum.
CDM's work is being completed under USAID's Montenegro Coastal Development and Environment Activity Water and Wastewater Improvements Project, and in parallel with the Community Revitalization through Democratic Action Project, a $27 million community development program that promotes citizen participation and increases community involvement in local government decision-making.
"We're pleased to play such a central role in advancing the goals of these important projects in Montenegro. In addition, design-build delivery allows us to complete the work quickly, protecting public health, improving the environment, and helping tourism, which will support further economic development in these beautiful coastal communities and inland," says Dr. Myron Rosenberg, CDM senior vice president.
The project is underway, with all major components expected to be substantially complete and in use before the summer of 2005.
