The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Utah State Director, Michele Weaver, has announced that the department is investing $6.4 million to ensure that 1,920 property owners in rural Utah have access to modern, reliable, and safe water infrastructure.
"Updating water systems is especially important to protect the health of rural communities,” Weaver said. "USDA is happy to invest in projects that serve local households and businesses, because with these upgrades, life in these communities have greater potential to thrive."
Projects include:
In Sanpete County, Pine Creek Ranch Property Owners Association is using a $3.3 million loan to construct a new water storage tank, replace main water lines, add additional water lines, and two pump stations. This funding will ensure Pine Creek Ranch Owners Association 450 residents and businesses, have access to clean, safe and reliable water for many years.
In Oakley, the city is using a $3.1 million loan to drill a new back-up well, and update the well house and pump, providing more water to the city. The new well will be sufficient for the city's demands and will allow future city development and growth.
Both loans come from the Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program, which provides funding for clean and reliable drinking water systems, sanitary sewage disposal, sanitary solid waste disposal, and stormwater drainage. The program serves people and businesses in eligible rural areas with populations of 10,000 or less.
