The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development has announced more than $1.2 million in loan and grant funds through the Water & Waste Disposal Loan & Grant program for a water infrastructure improvement project.
The funds are being awarded to the Central City Water Authority in Somerset County. The project is expected to benefit more than 2,000 rural Pennsylvanians.
This Rural Development investment of a $701,000 loan and a $526,000 grant will improve the water system and address aging infrastructure. It will increase raw water, treated water and service water storage capacities. The investment will also provide adequate time for proper maintenance of tanks, filters, and wells through rehabilitation of two existing water storage tanks, replacement of two water storage tanks, an additional clear well tank and improvements at the water treatment plant.

The Water & Waste Disposal Loan & Grant Program provides funding for clean and reliable drinking water systems, sanitary sewage disposal, sanitary solid waste disposal, and stormwater drainage to households and businesses in eligible rural areas.
