The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that it is investing $1 million to support critical water infrastructure improvements in Leamington, Utah.

The investment will help the town to replace the well, construct a new well house and secure clean water for residents.

“Like many areas throughout Utah, the community of Leamington has been adversely impacted by the effects of climate change. Decades of drought conditions have led to wildfires and other natural climate driven disasters”, said USDA Rural Development Utah State Director Michele Weaver. “Safe drinking water is critical to families’ health, and USDA Rural Development is proud to invest in vital infrastructure within Utah’s rural communities.”

Leamington is a small farming community in Millard County which depends on natural springs and a well to provide clean drinking water. Recent fire and prolonged drought conditions damaged the water system and exposed it to contaminants.

This project is funded through USDA Rural Development's Emergency Community Water Assistance Grant, which helps eligible communities prepare or recover from an emergency that threatens the availability of safe drinking water.
