Texas approves $12.8 million for drinking water infrastructure improvements

The state’s Water Development Board has approved funding through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund and the Texas Water Development Fund to support drinking water improvements.

The Texas Water Development Board has approved $12.8 million in financial assistance for four organizations’ water infrastructure improvements across the state.

The state’s funding for three of the organizations’ projects comes through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF), providing low-interest loans and principal forgiveness for infrastructure improvement efforts. One community’s funding comes from the Texas Water Development Fund.

Orange County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1

This district received $6,170,000 for water system improvements, including $5,670,000 in financing and $500,000 in principal forgiveness.

The district plans to construct a new water well site including storage, pumping, and treatment facilities to provide water to the district and to act as a redundant water source. Additionally, the District will construct a liquid ammonium sulfate system and related infrastructure at each of the district’s existing three water well sites.

Westbound Water Supply Corporation

Westbound Water Supply Corporation received $5,366,157, including $1,610,000 in financing and $3,756,157 in principal forgiveness.

The corporation plans to replace undersized water lines with larger diameter water lines to improve line pressure throughout the water system. The corporation will also construct a new pump station, rehabilitate an existing pump station, improve the capability of the existing Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system, and develop an emergency preparedness plan.

Dogwood Springs Water Supply Corporation

This corporation received $1,000,000 for water system improvements from the Texas Water Development Fund.

The corporation will drill a new well to provide additional water supply and to act as a redundant source to the existing operating well. The project also includes plugging a well, ground storage tank cleaning, and water plant site improvements. The corporation will also calibrate its intake meter and replace it if necessary.

Commodore Cove Improvement District

The Commodore Cove Improvement District received $314,696 in principal forgiveness, which will support the district in constructing a new ground storage tank that includes a recirculation system and other improvements.
