Designed to minimize operator intervention, the M5310 C Analyzers streamline process optimization and regulation compliance with cost-effective, reliable measurements.

TOC Analyzer helps facilities monitor, understand changes in drinking water quality

SUEZ’s Sievers M5310 C Total Organic Carbon (TOC) Analyzers are designed specifically for the drinking water industry. Monitoring organic matter at drinking water treatment facilities can help plant operators understand changes in water quality and make informed decisions about treatment processes. Designed to minimize operator intervention, the M5310 C Analyzers offer cost-effective, reliable measurements — enabling process optimization and regulation compliance with ease.

For both raw and finished water monitoring, the M5310 C promises peace of mind when measuring organics at treatment plants or within distribution systems. Sievers M5310 C Analyzers recover difficult-to-oxidize organic compounds and detect organics of all molecular weights and chemical structures, including but not limited to complex aromatics.

SUEZ’s Sievers M5310 C Total Organic Carbon (TOC) Analyzer.

Why Monitor TOC?

Organics in source water change based on season, location, and weather events. When water quality changes, it requires treatment processes to change. Organic compounds can be complex and can carry trace organics, heavy metals, and other inorganic contaminants. Organic material affects taste, odor, and color, which is an important part of water aesthetics. Organic matter serves as food for microbial and biofilm growth, which can cause decay of water quality and infrastructure.

The analyzers are compliant with Standard Methods 5310 C and US EPA 415.3 using ultraviolet (UV) persulfate oxidation with membrane conductivity detection and available in laboratory, portable, and online configurations. The innovative Membrane Conductometric Detection technology has proven to be an extremely reliable method for measuring TOC and delivers unmatched stability.

In addition, utilization of the analyzers supports compliance with Disinfectants and Disinfection Byproducts (DBP) rules through automatic calculations of TOC % Removal for influent and effluent streams or samples. Disinfectants are needed to control microorganisms, but disinfectants react with TOC in water to form DBPs. DBPs are regulated globally throughout distribution and can cause cancer, reproductive, and developmental health issues. Understanding and tracking TOC % Removal can help prevent DBP exceedances and optimize plant operations. With the M5310 C, TOC % Removal can be automated for grab samples on both the laboratory and potable models as well as automated online for the dual stream online analyzer.

TOC analysis at water treatment facilities is quick and easy with the Sievers M5310 C and can help optimize chemical dosing for coagulation and flocculation, ensure proper membrane pretreatment to avoid fouling, monitor GAC/IX removal efficiencies, improve ozone dosing, and test for membrane integrity, ultimately leading to cost savings and avoidance of costly repairs.
