IKA Instrument's lead-free gauge series takes the guesswork out of compliance with local and national standards for safe drinking water instrumentation. Specifically, this series was created to comply with the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) by setting wetted parts with lead content at less than or equal to 0.25 percent.

WIKA Instrument's lead-free gauge series

WIKA's lead-free gauge series also meets the requirements for lead-free plumbing, as defined by California, Vermont, Maryland, and Louisiana state laws. According to NSF/ANSI test standards, these gauges are safe for any applications where water is anticipated to be consumed by humans. WIKA's Technical Brief, titled "Pressure Gauges for Drinking Water Systems," better explains the recent updates to the SDWA and the benefits of using only third-party certified products.

Leading the Way for Safe Drinking Water Instrumentation

WIKA is the first manufacturer to offer gauges that are NSF International certified to meet the SDWA requirements, as outlined by the Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act (RLDWA) for use in drinking water applications. Because all WIKA drinking water gauges are assembled in the U.S. under a strict quality control process, NSF International audits the company's Lawrenceville, Ga., manufacturing facility on an annual basis as part of the company's product certification.

"Lead-free," as defined by the RLDWA, only allows up to 0.25 percent lead content in the wetted surface area of the product where water is anticipated to be consumed by humans. These drinking water gauges are typically found in water pipes, pumps and filtration systems, as well as commercial products that use or dispense drinking water.

Long before the RLDWA became effective nationwide, WIKA worked with NSF International to ensure that its products fulfilled the safety standards for drinking water. To provide the necessary confidence and assurance that customers need, all of the company's drinking water gauges are: NSF/ANSI Standard 61-G certified, audited annually by NSF International, marked with the universal "no lead" symbol on the dial and stamped on the socket, and assembled in the U.S.

Developing the Drinking Water Gauge Series

When creating the series of lead-free gauges, WIKA engineers crafted a gauge with wetted parts made from lead-free brass that is ideal for potable water applications. For extreme service applications and outdoor use, the company offers a robust liquid-filled gauge with a stainless steel case, ideal for applications with heavy vibrations. With a full line of HVAC/R commercial and industrial products to complement its drinking water products, WIKA's large portfolio of instrumentation meets industry needs and requirements.
