BIG BEAR CITY, CA, Oct. 10, 2005 -- The WateReuse Association has awarded the Big Bear Area Regional Wastewater Agency (BBARWA) its Public Education Program of the Year Award BBARWA officials announced today. The award was recently presented to BBARWA General Manager Steven Schindler at the WateReuse Association's 20th Annual Symposium in Denver, Colo.
"We are honored by this recognition from the WateReuse Association," said Schindler. "BBARWA has worked very hard to include the public in the Groundwater Recharge Project planning and decision making process and we will continue to work with the local community to ensure a reliable water supply."
The WateReuse Association's Awards Program recognizes superior water reuse, reclamation, and recycling projects that advance reuse, have a new reclamation twist, or have made significant contributions to water reuse and/or desalination. BBARWA has been recognized for its comprehensive public outreach program that includes targeted print and broadcast advertising, creation and management of a Citizens' Advisory Committee, website development, media relations, community presentations, and outreach to stakeholders including internal staff, elected officials, school children, and government agencies.
BBARWA (www.bigbearwatersolutions.org) was established in 1974 to transport, treat and dispose of wastewater for the Big Bear Valley area residents and businesses. BBARWA is conducting studies to expand its recycled water program and to develop a new groundwater recharge system.
