SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 4, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- URS Corp.'s EG&G Division has been competitively awarded a contract with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory (NPPTL) to provide scientific, professional, and engineering support services at the laboratory's site in Pittsburgh, Pa.
NPPTL is an organizational component of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). NPPTL, CDC's only national laboratory, is at the forefront of the Nation's efforts to prevent work-related injury and illness by ensuring the development, certification, deployment, and use of personal protective equipment and fully integrated, intelligent ensembles. The laboratory is the world's leader in approving respiratory protection for use in chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) environments that are characteristic of terrorist events.
The contract includes a one-year base period and an additional four one-year option periods, for a total of five years. Under the terms of the contract, EG&G will provide general engineers, physical scientists, engineering and laboratory technicians, a registered nurse and a physician to NPPTL. The contract is valued at a maximum $11 million for the five-year contract period.
