SAVANAH, GA, Oct. 23, 2015 -- During ceremonies recently held at its 2015 Executive Management Conference, the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA) named Riverside Public Utilities (RPU) of California among its top managed sustainable water utilities in the country.
RPU was one of 12 public water providers from throughout the nation to be named the 2015 AMWA Sustainable Water Utility Management Award winners. RPU has worked hard to maximize its water resources to become "water independent," relying only on groundwater to serve its customers' needs, which keeps costs down as they are not dependent on higher cost imported water supplies.
"The AMWA awards recognize the extraordinary performance of water agencies where management vision and employee commitment create a sustainable utility producing ample supplies of clean, safe drinking water," said AMWA President Chuck M. Murray, General Manager of Fairfax Water in Virginia.
Additionally, RPU has developed projects, such as: a Solar Well Project that helps decrease its reliance on non-renewable resources; and the North Riverside Aquifer Storage Recovery Project, which looks to improve and protect local groundwater supplies. "The communities served by these award winners should be proud of the accomplishments of their forward-thinking, exceptionally well-managed public utilities," Murray said.
