Manildra Group picks Koch MBR, RO systems

Koch Membrane Systems GmbH will provide modules for MBR and RO equipment at a new production plant being installed for an Australian wheat processor in Nowra, New South Wales.

The overall project, awarded to Tenix Alliance Pty. Ltd., expands the Manildra Group’s starch and ethanol production capacity. Tenix chose eight KMS Model PSH 1500 PURON™ membrane filtration modules for a design that calls for four trains of two MBR modules each, with space available for expansion.

To polish effluent from the MBR, Tenix also chose two MegaMagnum® MM6 RO systems from KMS. Each system uses 30 of the world’s largest commercially available spiral wound RO elements, the 18” diameter MegaMagnum.

In addition, KMS was chosen for an MBR project at Santa Paula, California’s new water recycling facility that will be the U.S.’s largest PURON installation to date. These systems use 50% less energy than other submerged MBR systems.

The project, awarded to Santa Paula Water LLC, a Pacific Environmental Resources Corp. and Alinda Capital Partners venture, will replace the city’s existing WWTP with a facility intended to produce effluent that meets all current federal and state wastewater quality standards.

Insituform wins sewer rehab contracts in India

Insituform Technologies won two sewer rehabilitation contracts in Delhi, India, with a value of $21.1 million. They’re part of a plan to spend in excess of $1 billion to rehabilitate a sewer system that serves 14 million people by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB).

The work will be performed by Insituform Pipeline Rehabilitation Pvt. Ltd., an Indian joint venture between Insituform and Subhash Projects & Marketing Ltd. (SPML) – one of India’s largest water, waste and power infrastructure companies. Insituform is currently working with DJB on two existing projects valued at $35.1 million previously awarded to Insituform.

Vietnam deploys Severn Trent RO technology

Ho Chi Minh City’s Can Gio Water Supply Plant , Vietnam’s first water treatment facility for processing salt water into clean drinking water, began operation Aug. 8.

The plant, which utilizes a UAT™ Series BW brackish water RO system from Severn Trent Services, will help reduce water shortages in the Can Gio district of the city, where demand for water has soared in recent years. The plant represents the largest build/operate/transfer (BOT) RO project in Vietnam. The Severn Trent filtration system will reduce levels of TDS and TSS to serve the drinking water needs of 66,000 district residents. The new facility will supply over 1.3 million gpd (5,000 m3/d) of potable water. Its capacity is scheduled to nearly double in about a year of opening.

Fontus provides water solution at India sugar mill

India’s Fontus Water Ltd. secured an order for two 40m³/hr RO plants and a 75m³/hr softening system for at the Bhaghauli Sugar and Distillery, in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh.

Sugar is the country’s second largest agro-processing industry after cotton textiles and India is the largest consumer and second largest producer in the world. The brackish water RO plant has a filtration, acid dosing and antiscalent dosing system for pre-treatment. Treated water can then be used for high pressure boiler feed at the mill, with a portion of the steam from the boiler utilized to drive the power plant turbine, while another stream will be used for process feed water.

The mixed bed ion exchange system will be utilized for the cooling water makeup system. A degasser tower of 900dia x 2400mm in the post-treatment section eliminates excess CO2 due to high alkalinity in raw water. It’s followed by a 1450dia x 2000ht mixed bed unit to ensure a continuous supply of purified water of conductivity less than 1 µs/cm. A single dual media filter of 2200dia x 1500ht is used along with two high pressure pumps from ITT of 54m³/hr at 13kg/cm² and forty 8-inch polyamide RO membranes from Hydranautics.

Veolia to press industrial water recycling in Australia

Veolia Water, together with AquaNet Sydney Pty. Ltd., signed a contract with the Sydney Water Corp. for the first private scheme for recycled water to a network of multiple industrial users in Australia.

The contract, which forms part of the New South Wales Government’s initiative, plans to reduce demand on Rosehill and Camellia’s drinking water supplies, in western Sydney.

Representing a turnover of AU$200 million (€122 million) for Veolia Water, the 20-year contract is a build, own and operate project for the Rosehill and Camellia Recycled Water Plant.

It will produce an annual 4.3 billion liters of highly treated water for major industrial customers. The plant will be specifically designed to cope with future demand and will be able to produce an extra 3 billion liters of recycled water a year for other industrial requirements.
