Swedish environmental technology companies will share their experience in sustainable development when the Swedish environmental delegation lead by the Swedish Minister of Industry Leif Pagrotsky visits China November 26-29. An environmental technology seminar will be arranged in connection with the visit in Beijing. The theme of the seminar is "the Sustainable City - a Swedish-Chinese Partnership".
This is a recently created long-term holistic concept for sustainable urban development initiated by the Swedish Environmental Technology Network, the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of the Environment. The "Sustainable City" is also a partnership project between Sweden and the People's Republic of China and was introduced at the World Summit on Sustainable Development, Johannesburg, South Africa in August - 2002.
The aim is to meet with Chinese decision makers and establish and strengthen contacts between Swedish companies and Chinese partners. The purpose is also to present what Swedish business can offer to the Olympic Games in Beijing.
"The Sustainable City" is a concept based on a holistic view and a close cooperation between the private and public sectors in implementing sustainable technical solutions. The aim is, together with our Chinese partners, to identify relevant projects where we are able to cooperate and from both sides contribute to sustainable cities.
Through the Swedish Environmental Technology Network the Swedish companies are organized and ready for this challenge.., says Rutger Engsall, Senior Vice President at the Swedish Trade Council and head of the Swedish Environmental Technology Network.
The project "The Sustainable City - a vision of Swedish-Chinese partnership in a global context " will use an integrative approach where different fields of action will be coordinated and combined in an optimal way. It puts special focus on how urban governance, urban planning, education, IT-concepts and participation as well as other coordinating activities may be used to promote a system approach to sustainable urbanization.
Particular emphasis is put on important synergies and connections between different supply systems as water and wastewater treatment, waste management, energy resources, traffic and transport, landscape planning, building technique and architecture. New and effective technically sustainable urban system concepts and solutions will be presented. Swedish private industry, public authorities and research institutions have developed world-class competence within all these competence clusters.
Swedish architects are already involved in designing a satellite city outside Shanghai, using a Swedish model with environmentally sound solutions. "The Swedish-Chinese project will pave the way for other Swedish companies in China", says Rutger Engsall. "Swedish companies are at the cutting edge of environmental technology".
Swedish Companies participating in these activities are:
Envac Centralsug AB, ABS Pumps, AB Volvo, NCC, Swedfund International, Delphi & Co, Swedbank, IGS, Sweco, Scania, Ericsson, Vinge Advokatbyr?, PURAC, ITT Flygt, ABB, Cypak.
