ARLINGTON, Texas, Sept. 27, 2002 -- The Trinity River Authority experienced a wastewater spill from its Walnut Creek Interceptor that transports wastewater originating in the City of Mansfield to the Authority's Central Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant in Grand Prairie.

The spill was a result of pump failure at a Lift Station, causing wastewater to back up into the pipeline system and flow out of a manhole located in Loyd Park near Great Southwest Parkway in Grand Prairie in Texas. The area potentially affected by the spill is Joe Pool Lake.

TRA discovered the spill at 8:00 a.m. on September 26, 2002 and mobilized its in-house work force and utilized a local contractor to assist with repairs.

Two holding ponds were used to minimize the wastewater discharged during the event.

It is estimated that 100,000+ gallons of wastewater were discharged into an outlying area of Joe Pool Lake before the repairs were completed at 9:00 p.m.
