Baker to develop long term control plan for Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority

Michael Baker Jr. Inc., has been awarded a contract by the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority to develop a Long Term Control Plan (LTCP) for Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) in Region Two of the Authority's system.

PITTSBURGH, Oct. 2, 2002 -- Michael Baker Jr. Inc., has been awarded a contract by the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority to develop a Long Term Control Plan (LTCP) for Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) in Region Two of the Authority's system.

Michael Baker Jr., Inc., is an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corp.

Under the three year, $7.5 million contract, Baker and its sub-consultants will perform a variety of functions, including: gathering and review of existing environmental data; development of a geographic information system and computer model of the collection system; generation of a global positioning system (GPS) survey of significant system features; development and evaluation of CSO control alternatives; and an LTCP report.

The computer model of the collection system will incorporate GPS, flow monitoring and radar-rainfall data to predict system performance and evaluate the CSO control options.

"Environmentally, the PWSA will be ahead of the curve," Joseph Preston, chairman of the Authority, said. "This agreement gives us the skills, background and support to improve the quality of life in the City of Pittsburgh region."

Serving as sub-consultants to Baker on this project are Wade-Trim Associates, Advanced Technology Systems, Inc., and Collective Efforts, LLC.
