Maryland's Larry Jaworski named president-elect of Water Environment Federation

Larry Jaworski, an active member of the Chesapeake Water Environment Association (CWEA), has been elected president-elect of the Water Environment Federation.


Chesapeake Region water quality professional brings leadership experience to position

Chicago, IL, Oct. 23, 2002 -- Larry Jaworski, an active member of the Chesapeake Water Environment Association (CWEA), recently has been elected president-elect of the Water Environment Federation (WEF), an international technical, scientific and educational water quality organization.

He was elected to the post during WEFTEC 2002 in Chicago, the federation's annual technical conference and exposition.

Jaworski, a federation member for 27 years, is a partner with the firm of Greeley and Hansen LLP in Upper Marlboro, Md. Among his many responsibilities, Jaworski is deputy program manager for the Engineering Program Management III (Sewer Systems) program for the District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority. This program is a five-year, $10 million assignment to prepare a long term control plan for the combined sewer system which serves a large portion of the district.

He has directed the planning and design of several wastewater treatment plants.

Jaworski has been a member of the WEF Executive Committee (1998-2000), the WEF Board of Directors (1995-1998), and is past chair of the Government Affairs Committee. He received the federation's Charles Alvin Emerson Medal in 2000 for "Meritorious Contributions to the Wastewater Collection and Treatment Industry."

A past director and pas president of the CWEA, he was recognized in 1989 by the Association with a Special Service Award for Outstanding Service in the Establishment of a Water Pollution Control Curriculum in the Public School System in Delaware.

In 1997, he was recognized with the federation's Bedell Award for extraordinary service to a Member association. He is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Jaworski received both his master's degree in environmental engineering and his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin.

Founded in 1928, WEF is a not for profit technical and educational organization with members from varied disciplines who work toward the WEF vision of preservation an enhancement of the global water environment. The WEF network includes water quality professionals from 79 Member Associations in 32 countries.
