July 8, 2002 -- Atkins has recently been awarded a 3 year Framework Agreement for Environmental Consultancy with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).
SEPA is Scotland's official environmental regulator, responsible for controlling pollution to land, air and water. Expected fees from the first year are around £400,000 between the consultants who are party to the framework.
The agreement is for a period of 3 years with the option of extending thereafter, and covers environmental consultancy in the following areas:
* Sustainable Development
* Aquatic Management
* Air Quality Management
* Waste Management
Atkins will be able to provide expert advice on Water Pollution Control, Flood Warning & Forecasting, and Aquatic Management Planning, the new Landfill Directive, Radioactive Pollution, Environmental Management Systems, Waste Policy & Minimisation and Climate Change - to name but a few areas.
Atkins is one of the few consultancies able to include telecommunications and remote monitoring within its range of skills, thereby providing an integrated multi-discipline team to support SEPA's needs.
The contract will be managed from Scotland with technical support being provided by a range of Atkins business from across the country. Project Manager Dan Wood states, "This win represents a significant achievement in progressing our environmental consultancy services in Scotland, and provides the opportunity for our teams to assist SEPA in the effective performance of its duties and, given our current experience with the Environment Agency in England and Wales, we may be able to help on the cross- border issues such as may occur under implementation of the Water Framework Directive."
Atkins is a provider of professional, technology based consultancy and support services. In recent years, it has expanded from its historical base in traditional engineering, management consultancy and property services into related technological consultancy and the management of outsourced facilities.
