Portland, Maine Al Curran, chairman of the board and CEO at Woodard & Curran has announced an appointment of a Board of Directors and formation of a Technical Leadership Team.
Woodard & Curran is an environmental consulting firm integrating services in engineering, science, and operations for clients in the public and private sectors, concentrated in the Eastern United States. The privately owned firm has 450 employees, with offices in Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.
The creation of a Board of Directors, including highly experienced outside members, and the formation of the Technical Leadership Team are designed to help manage and continue the firm's growth, Curran said.
"Each of the three members of the leadership team has at least 20 years of experience in water and wastewater treatment, and they will bring their experience and technical knowledge to bear on design and client service tasks in this area," Curran said. Appointments to the leadership team included Mike Alberi, Kelly O'Day and Wiff Peterson.
Mike Alberi, senior vice president at Woodard & Curran has 25 years of experience in the study, planning, design and operation of small and large water and wastewater issues including waste minimization and treatment plant design and operation. Alberi holds Bachelor of Science degrees in civil engineering from Tufts University and in mechanical engineering from the U.S. Maritime Academy.
Kelly O'Day, vice president at Woodard & Curran, specialized in utility management and automation projects. He has more than 30 years of engineering and utility management experience in all areas of water and wastewater supply, including planning, concept design, start-up operation and maintenance. He received a B.S. in civil engineering from the University of Maryland and an M.S. in chemical engineering from Drexel University.
Wiff Peterson, P.E. senior vice president and member, technical leadership team, has 30 years of operations and engineering experience in industrial and municipal water, wastewater, and groundwater remediation. He played a primary role in implementing the first contract operations project in the United States and has been involved with over 100 projects of that type. Peterson was president and CEO of M&E Services, a contract operations firm with revenues of $46 million, and joined Woodard & Curran in 1992. Peterson has a B.S. in chemical engineering and an M.S. in environmental engineering from Tufts University and completed the Executive Management Program at Pennsylvania State University.
Curran also said that the Technical Leadership Team will help teach and lead, providing mentoring, staff development, and direct client service. Curran expects this to enhance technical excellence firm wide and help promulgate best practices throughout the firm.
The board of directors will set the strategic direction of the firm and help ensure that we meet our clients' standards of service, as well as our own, Curran said. The outside board members bring a broad experience base to this policy-setting and corporate oversight body, and will provide a continuous infusion of fresh ideas, Curran said.
Al Curran, chairman of the board and CEO is co-founder of the firm along with Frank Woodard. Curran has been a leader in the environmental engineering and consulting arena for over 25 years. He holds a B.S. in civil engineering from the University of Maine and an M.S. in civil engineering from Purdue University.
Others appointed to the board of directors include Douglas McKeown, Elvin Moon, McLane Fisher, Paul Weisman, Wiff Peterson, William Marrazzo, and William Huhn.
Douglas McKeown, business center manager of operations and management, has worked for almost 20 years with municipal, federal and industrial clients in water, wastewater treatment, and groundwater remediation facilities. McKeown earned a B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Dayton and an M.B.A. from Boston College.
Elvin W. Moon, president of E.W. Moon, Inc, in Los Angeles, has 25 years of managerial experience at companies including Hughes Aircraft, Rockwell International, Bechtel Inc., and Weyerhauser. He holds a B.S. in business administration from the University of Arkansas and an M.B.A. from Pepperdine University.
McLane Fisher, president and founder of Quaere, Littleton, Colo., has for over 35 years been involved in managing or consulting with professional service firms. He co-founded the Professional Services Management Association and serves as chairman of the College of Fellows. Fisher earned a B.A. in economics and English from Hampden-Sydney College and an M.B.A. from the University of Oregon.
Paul Weisman, P.E., senior vice president of Woodard & Curran, has nearly 27 years of experience in consulting and environmental engineering services. He has managed stormwater, wastewater, water and solid waste engineering projects from planning, design, and construction, through permitting, startup and operation. Weisman holds a B.S. in civil engineering from the University of Massachusetts and an M.S. in environmental engineering from the University of Michigan.
William Marrazzo, president and CEO of WHYY, Inc., Philadelphia, Penn., the prime public television and radio companies serving the nation's fourth largest market, was CEO of Roy F. Weston, a $300-million, publicly traded, environmental services corporation with 2,500 employees worldwide. Marrazzo also served as board chairman of Weston International. He holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in chemical engineering from the University of Delaware and Villanova University, respectively.
William Huhn retired from Pfizer Inc. in May 2001 after 24 years with the company. His last position was Site Counsel for Chemical Division and Central Research in Groton, Conn., Pfizer's single largest site. Huhn was also Pfizer's director of environmental, health and safety legal group and managed Pfizer's corporate environmental legal group. Huhn graduated from Yale College and Yale Law School.
Founded in 1979, Woodard & Curran ranked number 128 on Engineering News Record's (ENR) list of the nation's top environmental firms by 1997. Today the firm ranks number 80.
