WASHINGTON, DC, NOVEMBER 28, 2016 -- An unknown sheen first spotted near Point of Rocks, Maryland, on Sunday has caused an intake area on the Potomac River to close.
NBC Washington reports a boom has been placed in the river to divert water flow away from an intake of the Potomac Water Filtration Plant. The intake has also been closed until the plume, passes the area, expected to take place sometime Tuesday morning.
Officials do not expect any effect on water supply or drinking water quality in the area as a result of the closure.
