June 18, 2003 -- The environmental and engineering services firm AMEC has been awarded an environmental planning contract with the Port of Los Angeles.
The three-year, $1 million contract will cover the preparation of environmental studies and impact reports/statements for capital improvements and major tenant projects at the port.
Under the contract, studies may address transportation circulation, noise, cultural and historic resources, air quality, water quality, plant and animal habitats, and aesthetics. AMEC's Earth & Environmental team in Southern California includes environmental planners, biologists, marine scientists, hazardous materials remediation experts, hydrogeologists, chemists, risk assessors and a Geographical Information System (GIS) group.
AMEC's first task will be the development of an Environmental Impact Report assessing the potential environmental impacts of relocating the Stevedoring Services of America (SSA) facility to accommodate Cabrillo Marina Redevelopment roadway improvements. The SSA facility, located at Berths 54 and 55, would be demolished. A new facility SSA operation would be built at Berths 153 and 154, but first at least two existing buildings at that location may have to be demolished. AMEC anticipates that traffic, noise and air-quality technical studies will be necessary in the development of the SSA-relocation report.
AMEC operates 90 full-service earth and environmental engineering offices in North America that provide a wide range of environmental, geotechnical, materials testing and water resources services. AMEC's California offices are located in Anaheim, Ontario, Riverside, San Diego, San Rafael, Santa Barbara and Tehachapi.
