June 19, 2003 -- At the National Forum on Water Quality Trading July 22-23 in Chicago, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a virtual trading exercise using an online trading resource called NurtientNet developed by World Resources Institute.
Participants will act as buyers or sellers of nutrient reduction "credits" in different trading scenarios.
Paul Faeth, managing director of the World Resources Institute (www.wri.org) and author of Fertile Ground: Nutrient Trading's Potential to Cost-Effectively Improve Water Quality, will be on hand to discuss ways new policies and tools can enable cost effective trading. Combined with existing trading policies, Faeth will demonstrate how NutrientNet can be used to develop water quality trading programs across the country.
The National Forum on Water Quality Trading is sponsored by the U.S. EPA, U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Association of State and Interstate Water Pollution Control Administrators, and the Water Environment Federation.
The forum will be held at the Courtyard by Marriott in Downtown Chicago on July 22-23, 2003.
