Madrid, Spain, July 9, 2003 -- WWF is asking people to sign a letter listing objections against the Ebro water transfer, part of Spain's controversial National Hydrological Plan.
The Spanish government launched an Environmental Impact Assessment on the Ebro water transfer on 2 June this year. WWF and the Platform for Defence of the Ebro consider that the information enclosed in this document has been manipulated so as to present these water transfers as feasible and necessary, when it is known that they will be completely unsustainable from all points of view, socially, environmentally, and economically.
They also believe that the report lacks information, including a good definition of the ecological flow in the Ebro river and alternatives to the water transfer.
The two organizations will make objections against the EIA, and are asking people to help by signing a letter listing these objections and sending them to the Platform in Defence of the Ebro.
